Mid-Atlantic Mets to merge with the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox fall showcase team to offer year round showcasing!!!

The Mid-Atlantic Mets would like to take the time to thank all of the coaches, players, and parents that have been a huge part of the Mid-Atlantic Met baseball program over the past 2 ½ years. We have enjoyed helping these young men achieve their goals of playing collegiate baseball but more importantly we have enjoyed the time spent with them along their journey.

At this time we feel that in order to better serve the interests of our player's and their increasingly growing needs as recruits it was time for something new and exciting. That is why at this time we are proud to announce that we will be merging in 2010 with the very prestigious Mid-Atlantic Red Sox Fall program to offer year round showcase and development opportunities for our ballplayers.

The teams will continue under the Red Sox banner as former General Manager, Dan Gitzen and many of his staff will help to assemble the first ever Mid-Atlantic Red Sox summer showcase team in the summer of 2010 and Red Sox Underclassmen team in the fall of 2010. In addition new ventures such as hosting tournaments, ID camps in Dec, Feb, and April, trips to WWBA Nationals and a brand new website is coming soon!!! Mid-Atlantic Baseball to host 2 summer tournaments at Maryland University in 2010!!!

Mid-Atlantic Baseball will be hosting 2 summer baseball tournaments utilizing the University of Maryland and other college baseball fields in the Maryland/Northern VA area to put on high quality showcase experiences for summer baseball teams. The dates for these two tournaments will be June 11 - 13 and July 16 - 18. The event on June 11 - 13 will be a strictly showcase tournament format with a limit of 14 teams for the tournament. The event on July 16 - 18 will be a round robin style tournament consisting of 4 pools, 16 - 20 teams, and a championship round on Sunday for the 4 pool winners. Mets Program Head Coach Ben Leonard accepts collegiate coaching position with Carolina Stingers of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League!!

Nov. 2, 2009 - After 2 full summer seasons with the Mid-Atlantic Mets, Head Coach Ben Leonard has been offered and accepted a position as Assistant Coach and OF instructor for the Carolina Stingers of the Southern Collegiate baseball League. Leonard will join Coach Ryan Bown of Shippensburg University's staff for the entire summer but will return to coaching showcase baseball in the fall of 2010. Here is what GM Dan Gitzen had to say, "This is a great step for Coach Leonard in his pursuit of eventually coaching at the collegiate level. Although he will be missed, it is an opportunity that is too good to pass up and we are very proud of the things he is acheiving with his coaching career and extremely pleased with what he has done to help us get to where we are as an organization. We are very excited for Ben and look forward to his return in the fall." Leonard will remain on as a consultant in the program until he leaves for the summer in June. 2011's Carter Bidwick and AJ Lardo gain acclaim from Baseball Factory!!!

Oct. 13, 2009 -- At a recent Under Armor National Tryout sponsored by Baseball Factory in Baltimore, MD, both Carter Bidwick and AJ Lardo we recognized as top performers of the event. Carter posted a 7.06 sixty yard dash time and dialed up the velocity on the mound at 85 MPH in route to being named the events Top Prospect, while AJ ran a 6.70 sixty and tattooed balls all over the yard on his way to being named the Top Underclass prospect. We are very proud of both boys and their accomplishments and hope it results in an invitation to the UA Pre-Season All American Games in AZ. 3 Mets selected for prestigious Border Battle Oct. 31st - Nov. 1st @ College of Charleston!!!

Sept. 23, 2009 -- Mid - Atlantic Mets GM Dan Gitzen was informed this past weekend that he would have 3 players from his program representing the state of VA in the prestigious South Atlantic Border Battle on October 31 and Novemember 1 at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. 2010's Derek Justice (OF/LHP; UVA committ), and Mike Costello (RHP; Radford committ) will suit it up for the VA 2010's in hopes to impress some Pro Scouts, while JJ White (C, Stone Bridge) will hope to catch the attention of the mass of college coaches that will be in attendance. Here is what GM Dan Gitzen had to say about it: "It's a phenominal honor to have players from your program recognized for this type of event. Knowing that you have one of the top 18 kids in the state truly makes you proud of what the kids in your program are accomplishing with their baseball careers. Having kids committ to go to schools that they want to go to is our first priority but events like these are the icing on the cake for guys like Mike and Derek, and hopefully the start of some really big things for JJ!!"
